Thanks for repeating your contribution Gareth, let's hope I don't manage to delete this conversation! You have many interests - which ones will you focus on for your research?

hello

Posted by Helena Ferris at May 23, 2009 10:53 PM
I see that this was supposed to be filled in by yesterday but I only received the email today.
This is allvery new to me. I'm a class teacher (y5),G&T lead teacher and Assessment coordinator/leader. I have been teaching now for nearly 6 years. I am hoping that this will give me some practical ideas about supporing gifted children in primary school.
After discussion with John Broadbent I hope to carry out a case study looking at the impact of intervention.

not to worry . . .

Posted by Alison Gee at May 27, 2009 08:33 AM
The date refers to the start of the conversation - not the end, so no problems. Thanks for sharing the early thoughts for your research with us. What types of intervention occur in your school? Alison

not to worry . . .

Posted by Helena Ferris at May 27, 2009 03:24 PM
At the moment there is not a lot of intervention. We do not write IEPs for G&T children unlessthey have another reason to have an IEP such as behaviour difficulties.
I have set up an Enrichment Programme but to be honest it is limping as teachers find it hard to commit the extra time.
Incidentally how do I post the plan once I've wriiten it. Do I email it to you? Helena

not to worry . . .

Yes please, post the plan to me. Do you know what is happening in other schools? How are they supporting gifted children? Alison

not to worry . . .

I have some ideas about other schools as I have been to the LEA sessions for the G&T leaders. I hope to find out more through talking to people on the course. Please would you remind me of your email so that I can post you my plans. The last time I tried by clicking on a link it failed to send.

Hi

Hi Alison,

Apologies for not being in touch recently. Have not been too well. Collectables are my treasures to me but are basically my junk - which I am told they are by my other half - coins, stamps, souvenirs from different countries etc.

Hi again

I think I've done it! Could you please check and let me know?

Plans please!

Thanks, your plan is in your folder. This looks interesting, there appears to be a lot of interest in gifted and talented at the moment - this should help you with your literature review. A little concerned that you are focusing on one student, what happens to your research if this person leaves the school or is unwell for a period of time? Alison

Plans please!

Thanks for your feedback. I took advice from John Broadbent as he is supervising PDT 4170 Developing professional Practice (Gifted-Enfield. I will have to think things out again if the the child is ill for a long time. The parents are not planning on taking her out of school as she will enter Y6. I want to focus on multiple exceptionalities and there is only one child suitable at the moment. But I admit it may be a problem.
I note that the materials on types of research are now up and that will be interesting to look at. Again thanks for the feedback.

Helena
