Welcome conversation.

Ian09

Hi ! I am Dr Ian Terrell and I have been leading practitioner action enquiry projects since the late 1980's. What I like about them is that practitioners are empowered to choose a relevant subject that interests or concerns them, to investigate what is known as "best practice" , to implement seleced  strategies, and to collect and analyse data on what really happens, thus developing new insights about practice.

I currently work at Middlesex University.

Now your turn. Tell me . Write a brief paragraph

  • Who you are.
  • Where you currently work.
  • What your project might be focused upon.
  • Why you are interested in action enquiry.

(Please keep  contributions to a succinct paragraph on any topic. We will use the information  to plan the programme. You may use it to identify "study buddies" to work and share ideas and material with.)

Hi,
I am Diena Murshed and I am currently living in Yemen. Things are a bit up in the air at the moment because of a Swine flu fear all schools are shut. The Ministry of Education announced this week that this year term may begin at the end of October. As for my research, this year, I would like my enquiry to focus on parent involvement for SEN children who attend the resource room in a pilot public IE school. These children have a wide mix of SEN including ASDs, dyslexia, and children that have just fallen behind (with over 100 children in regular classes many do fall behind). I hoping to focus on an ASD child and a child with dyslexia but this of course depend on parent's willingness to participate.

welcome to you all.Well done for getting here and talking to each other. You may be able to buddy up and support each others projects, reading, data colelction and analysis. If you are doing similar projects then why not?

Hello,
My name is Anastasia. I am from Greece and I am currently working as an EFL teacher (English as a Foreign Language) in a primary school, teaching children from 8 to 12 years old.
I have not decided yet the exact topic of my action research project, but I am more into reading, handwriting and spelling difficulties along with strategies to overcome them. I am thinking of working on these fields as a chance to get a better insight and prepare my students properly to sit exams for a language certificate. I am also interested in finding out if these difficulties are similar to those of pupils who have English as L1.
I would be very happy if I could find any study buddies.

my name is peta i currently work in a large comprehensive school for girls in haringey north london. I am a special needs teacher but have also been requested to teach Maths this year to 'bottom' set yr 9 students. I am interetsed in developing their speech / spoken language within the classroom. I would like to develop teaching strategies that use speech and lang techniques. They are a lively group of stduents who struggle with Maths and some have speech and lang difficulties. There are a great range of students, One student has been selective mute whilst anoth has anger issues and can be very vocal!
Just as a matter of interst Are others being allowed out of school to attend lectures?

Peta

There are no "lectures" in school time Peta.

This is an online course but we happen to have "research meetings" at the University for those that can (and want to) attend. However, they start at 4.30 for 4.45.
